apocalypse — Technically, an unveiling, usually referring to the last book in the Christian Bible, known as the Revelation or the Apocalype, which talks about the unveiling of Jesus Christ. Because of the book’s extensive discussion of widespread destruction of nature and of people, the apocalypse has come to refer in most cases to that or similar destruction.
armegeddon — The final battle, or beginning battle in a campaign, between earthly armies described in the book of Revelation. It is considered by many to be the last great conflict between good and evil.
bug out — The action which takes place on the final day you have chosen to stay in the mainstream as Dec. 21, 2012 nears. It means going to your bugout site.
bugout site — The area you have picked to retreat to when doomsday, Dec. 12, 2012, nears. It could contain a cabin, a cave, an underground bunker newly built or left over from the cold war, or nothing yet. It may be surrounded by caches filled with the seeds, tools, weapons, etc. you will need in a post-apocalyptic world.
doomsday — One term to describe the day or sequence of days in which civilization as we know it comes to an end, either because of our own actions (economic, environmental, war, etc.) or because of acts of God (asteroid, solar flares, geologic activity, etc.)
end of days — Another term used to describe doomsday (qv) or the beginning of the apocalypse (qv). Frequently used in a religious context.
post-apocalyptic — The times after the apocalypse (qv), in which few people survive under primitive and dangerous conditions.
survival — Taking the necessary actions to allow yourself, your family and your tribe continue to exist following doomsday. The result of taking those actions.
survivalist — One who chooses to plan for and educate himself and those close to him for survival after doomsday.
teotwawki — The end of the world as we know it.
wildcrafting — Using or developing wilderness survival skills.
